Generatingan app-specific password for your Bigpond account is a good practice that
increases your general security, especially when you are using your email with
third-party programs not supporting 2-step verification. To do so, firstly you
need to make sure that 2FA is turned on in your Bigpond account, as app
passwords are linked to this security feature.
Goto your Bigpond account through the Telstra web page that you may have
previously registered. Proceed to the section with the security settings where
you will be able to adjust your 2FA settings. After 2FA is active, search for
the function that allows you to create an app-specific password. This function
can typically be found in the same place or in the ‘Manage your account’
checkbox.
Whilegenerating the app password, you’ll be asked to give an identifying name for
its later retrieval (for instance, “Outlook”, “iPhone Mail”). Once named, the
system will issue a special one-time password that you will use in place of the
regular password which you would normally use to configure your Bigpond email
in other email clients. It should be noted, however, that this password will
only be displayed once, so it should be recorded in an effective manner.
Usingapplication-specific passwords not only helps protect your primary password but
also allows the non-mediated use of third-party applications by revoking access
only to these applications without changing the main Reset Bigpond password.
